Almost all children grow up reading and listening to fairytales. Boys love to act like the knights and princes and girls – princesses!! It is hence, no big surprise that a fairytale theme is one of the most popular choices for birthday party themes around. Here are some ideas from Mighty Magic Factory to create an awesome fairytale party. It does not take much money but will require time and effort. This article will focus of the following party elements; party invitations, door gifts, cake, decorations and activities.
Party Invitations
The creation of a themed party starts right from the party invitations. For a fairytale themed party invitation, you can make the invitation cards like a decree or scroll! Use a cream-coloured textures paper for best effect. Handprint the text of the invitation with a fountain pen or print it out on your computer using an old-English calligraphy font. To attain the look of an old scroll, simply crumple the paper and scorch the paper sides. Tear the paper sides before scorching to give it a ‘scroll-look’, but be careful when handling fire!
For fairytale themed parties, the kids should dress up to fit the theme. Your invitation should state this explicitly so that the invited children can do so. (You might want to have simply costume accessories such as hats/ helmets/ tiaras/ fairy wings etc just in case some kids are not in costume.
The invitation itself should be written in a fun way too, but do remember to put in all the relevant details including, date, time (duration), venue, RSVP date and contact details.
Door Gifts/ Party Bags
Some door gifts or party bags you can consider for a fairytale themed party include: plastic tiaras, wands, king/prince crowns, toy swords and shields, pirate patches and pirate hats and so on (you get the idea). The items mentioned above can be bought from party shops, or if you wish to, you can make them yourself too. Tiaras and wands can be made from colourful pipe cleaners and pirate hats and eye-patches can be made from cheap cloth. Use your child’s favorite fairytale story or characters as inspirations or guides to make themed door gift or party bags. You can make up inexpensive little goody bags like rustic pouches made from old cloth filled with gold chocolate coins and trinkets. Simply cut out a square of cloth about 8″ x 8″, throw in the goodies and gather up the corners of the cloth and tie them together with twine!
Cake
Since your party is going to be a fairytale themed party, there’s no reason why your cake shouldn’t fit in the theme too! The simplest solution is to buy cakes from confectionery shops that have fairytale prints on the cake. However, this can be expensive.
If you wish, you can have a home-baked cake that fits the theme. Do not worry! You do not have to be a pastry chef to make a tasty cake – you can make it easily using pre-mixed cake powder available in supermarkets. To make it even more fairytale themed, buy icing, sweets, chocolates and use your creativity to decorate the cake! An easy cheat to make a simple cake a themed one is to buy toy figures and plant them on the cake! Ensure that the birthday child gets involved by letting him/her design decorate his/her own cake too. This is a great chance to bond with your child in a fun way!
Decorations
For a fairytale themed party, decorations must reflect the fairytale theme. One of the best decorations that can help to create a fairytale atmosphere is plenty of white, silver or pink nylon netting! Nylon netting can give the surroundings a dreamy and fairytale feel. Nylon netting is very versatile and you can secure the material on chairs, tables, pillars and even the ceiling.
Since your child is the special child for the day, you can also have a special throne for the birthday child. This throne can be easily made by modifying an inexpensive wooden chair and have it spray-painted gold and decorated with nylon netting. You can also put red satin on the seat to make it even extra special! A plush cushion is also a nice touch.
If you don’t mind the expense, fairytale themed party cutlery, plates and cups are very pretty and really add to the theme when the entire table is set with such themed tableware.
Balloon decorations can easily fit the fairytale theme. If you are using a professional decorator, they will have the expertise to theme the decorations. If you are self decorating, the easiest way is to match balloon colours to the other decorations. Adding stickers of fairytale characters is an inexpensive way to theme the balloon beyond just colours.
Activities
Think about designing your party activities like games and competitions that can incorporate a fairytale theme. Here are some ideas; a best-dressed fairytale character or most creative fairytale costume competition, colouring contests featuring favourite fairytale characters, memory games using fairytale playing cards, a real-life archery competition (just like in Robin Hood!) with suction-cap arrows; shooting competitions with foam or suction-cap dart guns or matching shoes to the right person ala Cinderella. The great thing about these activities is that you can organize them yourself.
If you are hiring a party entertainer, it is a good idea to look for a professional company that can customize their shows and games. For example, Mighty Magic Factory, can customize party entertainment and games to suit your theme. They also have a costume and photo station that allows kids to dress up in all kinds of fairy-tale costumes.
One last important point when it comes to theme parties: Always adopt a holistic approach when planning a theme party. The theme only comes about when different elements come together to create a synergistic experience!

Kinetic Gal (yours truly!!) hosted a really fantastic party at an exclusive club at One Degree Fifteen Marina in Sentosa last Sunday!! The party was for a twelve year old girl and it was really cool because we had really nice party decorations for the party. We had a nice customised Mighty Magic Factory birthday banner for our birthday girl – with her name on it. AND, because she so loved the colour pink, we had loads and loads of pink helium balloons at the party venue. The place really looked pink and everyone loved the decorations! Not only did Mighty Magic Factory do up the decorations at the KTV Room (where the party adventure was held) we also did the decorations at the boathouse (the boat itself!!) where they had their barbeque – pink galore!! *grin*
Look at the lovely pink balloons and customized banners we have for our birthday girl!!
Besides all the decorations, we also had a photographer on-hand to take lovely pictures for our birthday party! Our mascot, Wizo was a hit with the girls too, especially when he did a pretty cool jiggly dance at the party with the girls. Wizo also did some balloons and gave the balloon flower to the girls. We had a great and fun time taking photos and shaking hands with Wizo too. In case you don’t know, Wizo is actually our 7-feet tall magic genie mascot, and he’s always a great hit at any party – doing some magic or balloons!
Of course, the girls (an all girls party – how cool is that!!) also loved the party adventure! Everyone was wowed by the juggling and magic. Our birthday girl also did some fantastic magic that was the highlight of the show. And straight after the show, we had our power pledge where everyone got a really cool ID card from Mighty Magic Factory! Once the party adventure was over, the whole party proceeded to the boathouse led by my assistant with a whole big bunch of PINK balloons! It was a grand procession indeed! *grin*
The party was really fun and I had a great time hosting the party for the girls too!
Everyone loves the balloons Kinetic Gal’s giving out!!

How Singapore’s Professional Female Magic Juggler Learnt to Juggle February 21, 2008

Over the last weekend, Kinetic Gal hosted several parties for the birthday boys/ girls. Besides the children, the parents and adults at the parties watched and participated in the magic and juggling show and enjoyed themselves! (That’s right! Our shows are not just ‘for the children’, they are wholesome entertainment for the whole family in general, adults included, and it is so much more fun when everyone participates!)
During one of the birthday party, a parent came up to me after my show, telling me that her kid (a 2 year-old boy) really loved my yoyo act *grin* and asked me how and where I picked up juggling.
It is a long story how I picked up juggling, so I only told her a little, but if you’re interested:
Long long long time ago….. *yawns*
Okay, okay! Not that way! =p
Several years ago, I attended a mind-mapping course by mind-mapping guru Tony Buzan and was taught to juggle using some bean bags. While throwing three beanbags around in the air did not seem like an extremely interesting thing for me at first, I quickly got hooked to it. The challenge and the physical exertion kept me at it for quite a while and soon after i was juggling the normal 3 ball cascade. (Yay!!)

A few years later down the road, a book “Master Juggling” by Henrik Lind which I picked up at a bookshop rekindled my juggling interest leading me back to juggling again. Juggling supply was really hard to find back then though, and I had to juggle socks for practise!! In comparison, juggling supplies are so readily available nowadays even from magic shops like Magic Boutique! Anyway, I soon progressed beyond 3 ball cascade and started juggling various other props like rings and clubs too. Before i knew it, juggling became a core component of Kinetic Gal’s juggling and magic show!
And that’s the summarised story of how Kinetic Gal came to do juggling. You can pick up juggling too (even if you’re an adult!). Besides the various advantage juggling has for kids, it also helps with posture correction and is a great way to unwind and move around a bit after a long day of sitting at your desk!
I’ll be telling you more about juggling and how to start in later posts, so stay tuned! ![]()
Juggle, juggle, juggle!!

Learn Juggling! It is a Great Hobby for Children in Singapore February 18, 2008

Have you ever thought of having your child pick up juggling as a hobby? It is a great activity that exercises the child both physically and mentally.
Juggling, or more specifically, toss juggling is the tossing of two or more items in the air and keeping them there for a certain amount of time. The most common juggling items are balls, but the items can range from balls to rings, to anything that the professional juggler can handle. Mighty Magic Factory’s very own Kinetic Gal can juggle balls, rings, yoyos and clubs – even blindfolded!
Juggling has a long history, and is an especially good activity and hobby for hyperactive kids as well as kids with short attention spans. This is because juggling is a physical activity that requires concentration and focus. The initial stages of juggling will see kids dropping the balls(s) a lot. This is great as it develops perseverance and allows hyperactive kids to expend their energy. At the same time, juggling also requires effort and concentration, which helps the kids with short attention spans to learn to focus their mental energy and effort.
Besides being a physical activity, juggling is also a mental activity too. In most normal activities, the activities are mostly either prominently right-brain-centric or left-brain-centric. However, juggling has been proven scientifically to utilize both sides of the brain, which can help your child to utilize and maximize his/her brainpower! In fact, because of this, many creativity experts, like mind-mapping guru, Tony Buzan, introduce juggling as a great hobby for their course participants. In US, juggling is also one of the activities that can be found in some of their physical education modules!
Juggling also has an added advantage of being a cheap and fun hobby. Three good beanbags can last the beginner juggler for quite a long time! In fact, one need not even use beanbags. Simply take some old (but clean!!) socks, fill them up with some raw rice and sand, sew them up tightly and voila! You have your juggling balls (socks!). You can also buy juggling equipment (and instructional material) at affordable prices from Magic Boutique, Singapore’s No.1 Online Magic Shop! You can buy good quality balls or clubs that will stand up to wear and tear.
Juggling can also offer hours of fun once the beginner has grasped the three ball cascade – which is the basics of juggling. Thereafter, the beginner juggler can start learning complex tricks and perhaps even come up with tricks of their own. In fact, kids can have fun teaming up with other friends to do fun passing juggling where they juggle and pass to each other at the same time. Not only do they have fun during the juggling sessions, they also learn to communicate and work with friends.
As a hobby, juggling is also a great stress reliever for kids. Kids nowadays have so much tremendous pressure from homework and tests. Juggling can offer as a stress relieve outlet, where energy is expended and at the same time, the mind is allowed to focus on juggling patterns and take a momentary rest from academics.
You can buy books or DVDs on juggling or also look for tutorials on the Internet. A basic 3-ball cascade can be learnt from multiple sources on the Web.
Juggling allows kids (and adults too!) to have fun and relax while at the same time, learn patience and discipline! Plus, it is not an expensive hobby, so why not let your child try his/ her hand at juggling and have some fun today!

After a period of waiting and anticipation, my interview with Business Times, Singapore has finally been published! *grin* I was originally told it was to be published last week, but there was some delay. Nevertheless, the article is now out on the Business Times!
You can see a picture of me (in full spunky Kinetic Gal costume!!) in the article with my puppet, Crash the lab rat and loads of balls flying around me! The article writes about how I got into magic and entertainment for kids as well as a little about the experience that i have from performing.
I’m also exceptionally happy about this article because it has also been picked up by my school! If you don’t know, I’m also studying at the Nanyang Technological University, and my school has actually cut the article from Business Times to be posted on the NTU webpages!
Here are some little quotes from the article itself:
“…biggest challenge Adeline faces is being a professional female entertainer in a male dominated market…”
“… breaking new ground in the children’s edutainment market…”
Check out the Business Times Singapore today for the article, or read the article here!

Recently, Kinetic Gal hosted a birthday party for a little girl who was just turning one. It was a great party! Even though the birthday girl was only one, there were also many children around and everyone was really excited to be able to see a magic and juggling show at the birthday party.

Children under the age of three tend to see and view things differently – which means that not all magic entertainment is suitable. We understand that, which is why we can tweak the show specially for the birthday kids who are under the age of 3! For these shows, we use loads of colours and movement, which the little ones love. The little girl whose party i hosted liked it too! She kept coming up to me after the show… Such a sweet and cute girl!!
She was also the star of my magic and juggling show when she helped me (along with a little help from her mum) to make magic happen!
After the show, I gave out balloon animals to everyone (kids only!!) and the birthday girl got a special balloon. Then there was cake cutting (hosted by yours truly) before the cake was cut and shared! While the birthday girl was too young to know how to blow out the candle, her mum and dad, together with her older sister blew out her candle for her together. It was such a lovely moment!
Everyone was really happy at the party and it was great for me too! Whoever said that birthday party for little ones have to be boring? All you have to do is just remember to choose the appropriate birthday entertainment for your party! *grin*

Hi all!!
It has been a busy month with the magic convention as well as loads of fun and exciting stuff going on at the same time. The convention was a success and I’m sure you have read all about it already! January was fun, busy and exciting and it will continue to be so for Febuary!
For Kinetic Gal (me!!) this is especially so, since Febuary is just around the corner. What’s so special about this month? Well, that’s when my exclusive interview with the Business Times, Singapore is slated to be out! I’m crossing my fingers though since I have heard that editors sometimes change the publishing dates of articles at the last minute. But, the last I heard, Febuary it is!!
Besides that, I have a couple of birthday parties coming up too. I’m really excited about them since these parents specifically requested for Kinetic Gal! One of the parties is even a pink themed party – how cool is that!
There’s actually also another reason for my excitement – that is my new yoyo act! Yup, a totally brand new, cool yoyo act!
Here’s a peak at my new ‘weapon’!
This yoyo of mine is really different from the yoyos that you see normally, because my yoyo is a cool metal pink one! In my new act, you will see me perform some really cool effects and magic with my yoyo.
I have been training really hard and I’m extremely excited since I will be debuting the act in the upcoming birthday parties! As for what exactly I’m going to be doing with my yoyo, well… I can’t say more, because that will spoil all the surprise!
Well, I have to go back to my yoyo training… Do check out the Business Times, Singapore for my interview this coming month!
