Kinetic Gal performed at the woodlands polyclinic’s carnival today and had great fun. Even though there was some initial problem with the sound system, we managed to get the mic going at last so it was still okay!
There’s a huge difference in performing for birthday parties and for events like these.. For example, the sound system! I have my very own sound system, so it ensures that I have the good music and sound level that a party would need! However, during event shows, the sound systems are mostly provided by the events side and I would run a show off the sound system provided. As you can see, I am versatile enough to work off any environment!
Carnival stalls at the place where i was going to perform!
Kids getting ready to watch the show!
There are no pictures of the performance (no photographer!!) but it was a pretty good show overall. Parents and kids love the juggling segments and Mr Magic Rabbit never fail to amaze even though he is not a real rabbit!
Despite knowing loads of magic, there’s still one thing I couldn’t escape from – the Singapore’s weather! I was sweating BUCKETS after the show, but I’m so glad the kids enjoyed themselves, cos I had great fun performing too!

Sometimes parents love to organize the birthday parties themselves, but do not know where to get their birthday supplies like party bags, treats and so on. Fret not – Kinetic Gal here will give you some tips as to where to get your birthday party supplies!
Depending on what you’re planning to give away to the kids attending the party, sometimes, the best place to go may actually be the bookshop! Bookshops nowadays sell more than just books (in fact, bookshops are really a misnomer!) and are good places to get things for party packs. Depending on your budget, you can get stationary sets that are from Disney and various companies. The sets also vary in price, so you can set a price range for getting the packs. If you’re in Singapore, you may just want to pop by your nearest Popular Bookstore!
For the more ‘upmarket’ party packs, consider heading to the nearest departmental stores to check out the party section. Departmental stores nowadays do sell pretty good party related stuff at reasonably okay pricing. The party stuff from departmental stores are generally more recent and with more varied items. Hot favorites like packs from ‘High School Musical’ are available too – but at a much higher price! Locals can consider taking a walk around the party section in stores like OG.
For the more ‘budget’ party packs, consider going to your nearest neighbourhood wholesale party supplies store. These stores will have all your birthday supplies and handpacked party supplies. Sometimes buying in bulk allows for some discounts (and haggling is allowed, well, just a little). These are great for party items and are most times, one-stop shops, by virtue of them being wholesales.
For locals, do try shops around Chinatown and your neighbourhood. From our experiences, most neighbourhood will have one or two wholesale party suppliers.
Of course, the simplest way to have great party packs/ supplies is to task the party event company to do it for you. Just like how you can have party packs ordered from Mighty Magic Factory which makes it a real easy and efficient way to get your quality party stuff!

Previously, Kinetic Gal (yours truly) wrote about pinatas, and well, in this post, I’ll be writing about one simple and fun way which you can try to make your own traditional pinata together with your kid! Let’s get started!
Materials Needed:
- Balloon (+pump)
- Treats and prizes (non-easily meltable)
- Newspaper
- Starch
- Water
Steps
- Stuff prizes into the balloon, one by one. (Be careful!)
- Blow up the balloon carefully, without jiggling the balloon too much – sweets packaging have sharp edges, you do not want the balloons bursting. *Pump is recommended as balloons occasionally burst and can pose a hazard if you’re blowing it by mouth*
- When it has reached a suitable size, tie it up.
- Mix starch and water in a bowl. Make sure it is starchy enough – just like glue.
- tear newspaper in strips and soak them in the starch water.
- Paste newspaper strips on balloon until sufficiently thick – around 3 to 5 layers. Leave the balloon end (where you blow up the balloon) sticking out. This end is needed later on to suspend the pinata.
- Set aside to dry fully.
- Stick a needle in the balloon end to burst the balloon and pull out the balloon bits.
- Start decorating your pinata by painting on the newspaper!
- Set to dry – TADAH!!!
To suspend the pinata, first tie a length of ribbon to the middle of the ice-cream stick. Slip the ice-cream stick vertically into the pinata through the hole. Once it is in, it should lie horizontally and thus will not come out from the inside easily. Tie the ribbon to the ceiling and you’re done!
Now all you’re left with is to get a bat (be careful!), clear the ancient flower vases out of the way and wait for pinata time!
Birthday Pinatas September 8, 2008

Pinatas seem to be one of the most loved item/activity for a birthday party. Kids just simply love to have a go at the pinata and try to have a chance to get the most from the mystery ‘gifts’ within the pinata!
For those who don’t know:
A piñata is a brightly-colored paper container filled with candy and/or toys. It is generally suspended on a rope from a tree branch or ceiling and is used during celebrations. ~Wikipedia
Generally, kids take turns with a stick of some form to hit the pinata open so they can get to the prizes within.
Nowadays, besides the normal traditional pinata, we have balloon pinatas and various sorts of pinatas available. In fact, at Mighty Magic Factory, we have a very creative, one-and-only self-created pinata known as our Balloon Bomb! Over past experiences with pinatas, we found several problems with the traditional pinatas:
- Traditional pinatas are hung up – a problem for parties with varied age group.
- Requires use of stick – accidents do occur sometimes.
- Sometimes, the birthday kid is unhappy that he/she doesn’t get the pinata broken.
As for balloon pinatas:
- Birthday kid is scared of being close to the exploding balloon pinata.
- Sharp stick required to burst the pinata – highly dangerous when it comes to kids rushing to get prizes.
- Birthday kid is too young.
So, with all that in mind, plus we wanted to give the kids a different experience, balloon bomb was created! Now, you get a balloon pinata that kids love, minus the danger. All the kid does is actually detonate the balloon bomb from a safe distance (party host determines from experience how near or far we should bring the ‘bomb’ away from the birthday kid) simply by pressing a button with guidance from our birthday host!
Thus far, the kids love our balloon bomb! In fact, Balloon Bomb is only included in our Action Packed Adventures and up, but it is available as an add on and many parents have taken that option too! Check out our party Add-ons here if you’re interested!
While all that is said, some people may prefer the traditional pinata still, stay tuned… Kinetic Gal will teach you a simple and easy way of making a balloon pinata in the next post! Till then!

In general, what are some birthday party treats one can prepare for a great birthday party? Let Kinetic Gal share some of her ideas with you!
- Sweets and candies
One of the most simple and easiest to prepare birthday treats for the kids. This is a high hit on the list of party treats as kids simply love candy (admit it, even adults love chocolates and candies too!). It is one of the most easy to purchase. This makes it a pretty common party treat, but if some effort is put into searching for the candies, it can be a good party treat too!
- Party blowers and mask
Fun stuff to have for the kids: it definitely lets the kids bring up the party atmosphere! One thing to note though, while the kids may be really having fun with things like whistles, it might be prudent to have them distributed only after shows (if there are shows planned) as they might be noisy, posing a challenge to your entertainer from entertaining the kids with his best at his show.
- Little puzzles
Kids love challenges! Having little puzzles for birthday treats let the little tots and the older ones put their mind to work and have some fun time trying to figure out the puzzles. In fact, make use of the treats for games too, and have a competition of solving the puzzles in the shortest time possible during your party!
- Tattoos and Stickers
Of course, tattoos here refers to the temporary tattoos that you can find in many novelty shops nowadays. Depending on your party theme, you can have scary real looking tattoos, pixie tattoos, cartoon tattoos, so on and so far! Stickers are also an alternative that you can consider!
These are of course, just some of the few treats that you can have! Next week, I’ll post more of the different treats and prizes that one can get that are great for birthday parties.
