Recently there has been a slowdown in update of the blog in here – apologies! Besides the usual birthday parties and stuff (many many of them!), Kinetic Gal is also involved in a mega magic event which is happening at Central on 27th June. It is the closing event of Singapore River Festival and is really THE PLACE to be at on that night! Just on Monday, the details of the event has been released during the press conference. Named “The Impossible Record“, local celebrity magic duo J C Sum and ‘Magic Babe’ Ning will attempt to set the record of 15 illusions in just 5 minutes. The current unofficial record is held by Hans Klok who successfully attempted 10 illusions in 5 minutes.
Here’s the teaser trailer of the event:

Glowing Testimonials from Parents – Thank you!! May 25, 2009

Kinetic Gal has been hosting a lot of parties for girls aged 5-10 recently and has gotten excellent feedback from the parents. =)
Here’s what Ping-Shin had to say of the party:
Many thanks for hosting Yee Ming’s 5th B’day Party and the marvelous show.
We’ve had fantastic compliments from almost all the parents, friends, and even from my parents! One parent remarked that you were able to gel with the kids (perhaps due to the natural female instincts), which might not happen with other male counterparts in the industry. My observation was that all the kids and parents left the party with smiley faces & compliments on KG’s show : )
Will definitely recommend you to my friends. As I’ll be sending a “thank you e-mail”, I’ll include the link to your website as well.
Thank you Ping-shin!
Also from Estair’s mum, Indrani, for whom I hosted the party on just last Sunday, this is what she had to say:
At the end of my eight year old daughter Estair’s party, all the mothers were asking: “Where did you find her?” And all the kids, almost 30 of them, were so energized clapping and laughing.
I remember looking for someone with something special to make Estair’s birthday party fun. Trouble was, all our kids had seen and done so much, almost “jaded” at such a young age as far as party stuff was concerned. Then i saw Kinetic Gal on the net. Singapore’s only woman juggler/magician/fun maker for parties? Nice. Am always happy to see women come into their own, a most important message also to our girls. So i checked out your website and press releases carefully, liked what i saw and took the plunge. Most glad i did. “Kinetic Gal” was all that the name promises. It was a pleasure to have you, Estair and her friends loved the act, thank you. All the best and i personally enjoyed your confidence, independence and ability to handle crowds with such aplomb.
All the best, bye, Indrani.
Thank you Indrani for such glowing remarks of myself!
Kinetic Gal has been busy but, I’ll be posting some photos of the recent parties (and a Dance and Dinner function) that I was at recently in just a bit!
9 year old birthday parties in Singapore! May 19, 2009

I had the usual BUSY BUSY BUSY wkends (and wkdays as well) but for this week, i hosted a couple of birthday parties for the older children, some turning 9 years old. Sometimes parents call and ask if their children about 9 years old will like to watch the show. Well, yes! I of course, treat the 9 year olds very differently when talking to them – no talking down of course!
In fact the last show was hosted at a pretty special place. It was called ‘Firestation’ and was located at the former Bukit Timah Firestation. Unlike the other usual places, this party was held at an uber cool Gastrobar!

I hosted the party for Vera and her friends who were extremely sporting! They really enjoyed the whole set of games and had great fun – High School Musical music and Hannah Montana were great hits as usual! The only thing more surprising was when everyone ran off just before we got to the grand finale – ‘Balloon Bomb’! Usually i only have kids running towards me, not the other way round!
In any case, they soon found that it was fun and not scary, so everyone enjoyed themselves.
That’s Vera there on the right – HAPPY BIRTHDAY Vera! I do so hope that i can see you again next year too!

While the week was good, i read disturbing news on the newspaper which i alerted my boss and close friend Ning to immediately:

The NewPaper - Magician, 68, molests 12-year-old apprentice
This was more than just disturbing but also, horrifying news to me. Being in the industry, i know that cases like these have actually happened in other parts of the countries before, but never in Singapore. I never dreamt that it would happen right here! Children trust us simply because they like us but scumbags (i apologise for the strong language, but this is warranted, in this case) like these had to exist. The boy is only 12 years old and it must have had been so totally awful. I really hope that he can put this behind him after accepting counselling help.
In fact, immediately after the report was out, on the very same day, i had parents asking me about this, and actually telling me that they felt safer going with me for their chosen entertainer simply because i am a female and they felt more confortable and reassured after talking to me. I’m really glad that is so, and i’d urge parents to choose your entertainers wisely too. You can never be more careful for this!
Singapore Birthday Parties Galore over the Weekends! May 10, 2009

As usual, birthday parties have been on-going non-stop and it only builds up over the weekends – typical restday for most people but most definitely, not for us! I have been getting non-stop enquiries and i do so hate to disappoint, but my slots are already filling up to July and beyond, in fact, all the way to September really so I always have to encourage parents to call early if possible! I thought this an extremely encouraging sign that despite so much talk about many not being as involved with their children, some parents really do take so much time and effort to plan the party!
The All GALS Party
I hosted an all gals (10 year old) party just within this month too, and boy, did we have fun with pinatas! The party package included games, so we had games session with ‘Guess the Show’. Of course, i couldn’t host the games session with my usual games show set with Hi-Fi, Thomas the Tank Engine, and etc (gasp!) so, we had a slightly different games session with guess the REALITY show! =) It was great fun, but i think the gals enjoyed the traditional pinata session that i hosted for them most! It was really funny when the fish shaped pinata simply broke into two (after my fingers got whacked a little) without spilling out any goodies inside. The gals still got to the goodies of course… and… I’d never underestimate 10 year old girls’ strength after this session!
The No-Presents Birthday Party
I have hosted close to 10 birthday parties within this month for now, and mostly for birthday girls and younger children (yes, they really like the big juggling action they see). Just yesterday, i hosted an extremely interesting party for Yee Meng. It was interesting in terms of party structure, as well as the ‘presents’ or rather ‘no-presents’ part. Yee Ming’s mum, Ping-shin had requested everyone (during the sending out of invitations) that there should be no presents, but instead, donations to the charity of their choice – namely: ‘Child at Street 11′.

Ping-shin explained that she thought that her children have loads of toys and books, and rather than to add on to the pile, why not do something for the less privileged children!

Ping-shin had a cardboard box set up in the party room with a simple explanation of what the charity organization was about for her guests to put their envelopes of donations in it.
I was honestly very touched with what she had done… In fact, coincidentally, it was one of my close friend’s birthday on the same day, and i did similar, donating to World Visions in her honour. In any case, I’m also familiar with ‘Child at Street 11′ having come across them last year, and i do so think they are doing important job with kids from low income family as well as dysfunctional family, so if you’d like to know more about them and see how you can help out too, do check out their website here: http://www.street11.org.sg/who.htm
A ‘Repeat’ Party
As for today, i hosted a birthday party for Raghav, who turns 4 years old, again. =) Again, simply because i hosted the party for him a year ago! I’m delighted to see Kavita and Raghav again. This time round, they got to see a different juggling and magic show from before, since i have updated much of my show content since then! Raghav has grown cuter (and was wrestling with a WWF Belt when i saw him) and the party was a blast. Thank you to the whole family especially Raghav’s grandparents who made me felt so welcomed and even thanked me so for the party hosting.
There’s still a whole bunch of parties, but that’s simply too much to write about! LOL! Oh, and since today is Mothers’ Day besides so many kiddos birthday, here’s wishing the little kiddos: HAPPY BIRTHDAY and all mothers a: HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY!
Kinetic Gal does Street Magic! May 10, 2009

Like all magicians, I love messing around with stuff and seeing what kind of ‘weird things’ we could do from normal objects and this is one of it!
I was doing my usual work in the office, and after playing around with some balloons (which i usually do because i like to practise), i came out with this impromptu battery into balloon effect. Just for the magic enthusiasts to know, I’d credit my inspiration to J C Sum from one of the effects he shared with me about two years ago.
Check out the battery into balloon that i did over here!
Kinetic Gal – when not in Costume and Character! May 5, 2009

I had some tiny tots (okay, not so tiny. LOL!) asking me during show and party what I do in my free time… I guess they must be curious as to what a magician/juggler does when we are not doing magic, or not juggling and performing for them. Of course, besides the regular practice and rehearsals that i have – for magic, juggling and ballooning, Kinetic Gal has other interests as well.
Honestly saying, it’s not that easy to find ‘free’ time, so it also depends on my mood and the timing of the ‘free’ space of time i have.
On a more quiet and relaxing afternoon, when i do have the time, i love reading. Kinetic Gal is a closet bookworm!
Often the books that i read are related very much to what i study, as well as my interest. Most of the time, you can find me armed with Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta series novels; Jeffery Deaver’s Lincoln Rhyme series novels or some marketing books.
I’m also a chinese swordsfighting and science fiction novel fan. Kinetic Gal can memorise poems from JinYong’s Legend of the Condor Heroes series! (Book geek!) *grin*
Besides books, you’d find me messing around with the electronic piano at home. I have a grade 3 level in piano, and while i no longer learn piano, i still like to mess around with the instrument a bit. Hahaha! I used to have a real piano, which had to be sold off when i shifted. Now i have an electronic piano, which i share with my bro, and it is really cool, because i can play in the middle of the night without the fear of waking up neighbours, by just simply plugging in the headphone – which is usually what i like to do!

Kinetic Gal @ The Piano!
Besides the very seemingly ‘nerdy and geeky’ kind of stuff i do, Kinetic Gal loves arts! On some days without shows, you’d find me in the art museum or with a sketchbook or rice paper at home! I have never taken any ‘proper’ art modules before, but still very much in love with arts, hence various experiments with different art forms.

Past Painting by me... Not very nicely done, but one of the few i kept.

Caricature Experiment
I had did a caricature once, of Tyra Banks, which happens to be my favourite and best (or so i thought, at least) caricature. It was however lost.
If i have a little more time and I’m feeling more active and hyper, you wouldn’t be able to find me at home! More than likely, you’d find me at the basketball court, or badminton court, or anything along the likes! LOL!
As my name also suggest (KINETIC!), I cannot keep still for long, hence, I also really love sports! I used to be in the table tennis school team, and still play badminton actively. Sports that i love and think i do pretty okay at the recreational level, include swimming, table tennis, badminton, squash and bowling. My highest record for bowling stands at 195 points… I hold a 3rd level Dolphin certificate (equivalent to silver) for swimming and a 7th Kyu Orange C certificate in Aikido (don’t mess with me!
). Kinetic Gal is also learning unicycling – more for fun than anything else.
There are a whole lot more of stuff that i love, including movies and cooking!
Now, the only problem comes… There’s not enough of me to go around doing so many things! I think Kinetic Gal needs a clone!
