Duncan Juggling Clubs – Review July 28, 2009

Just a few weeks ago, I saw a set of juggling clubs at a shop and liking the design (very gal thing i know), i bought the clubs at a whim.
The clubs did look super cool with the red fiery design on the white background, but it was not until several days later when i started throwing the clubs around.
First and foremost, Duncan is well-known for yoyos. For those who know, Kinetic Gal used to do yo-yos in my show too, and Duncan was the brand. I use Duncan Metal Zero (HOT pink
). Duncan had excellant standards for their yo-yos, so i expected nothing less of the juggling equipment as well.
The GOOD
The juggling clubs did live up to my expectations.
For beginner clubs they were excellent - you could technically throw the clubs around and they would not get dented at all. The balance was pretty good too – the club length was sufficient for beginners and good for throw spin.
It does help the clubs are really cool! Unlike Passe passe beginner clubs which are red blue and green (very basic and kind of tacky RGB colour), the clubs are white and with fiery red designs or yellow with black fiery designs. Awesome!
Now on to the ‘less’ good…
The BAD
The clubs are heavy! Surprisingly so! If these clubs are being handled by young kids, I’d highly doubt that the kids would be able to handle them. If the kids are above 8, perhaps that would be possible.
While the balance was good, the weight did make the spin a little different from usual juggling clubs.
Besides that, the juggling clubs make a lot of noise (even compared to Passe Passe clubs) but in the beginning of learning of juggling, that’s to be expected.
Others
If you have just began juggling – i’d advise you of course, to start with the juggling silks and balls. Once you have mastered that, at least to a certain degree, you can begin on the juggling clubs!
The juggling club set also includes a DVD which teaches juggling – i’ll do a short review on the DVD shortly after!
Till the next post,

And now… the Kinetic Gal’s first movie review of the month.

Kinetic Gal went movie-a-watching some time back (yes, it is pretty hard to find time! But i managed!) and caught ‘Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs‘ in the theatres.
Synopsis

To cut a long story VERY short, two big mammoth Ellie and Manny are expecting their first child, and Manny, the daddy wants to make life perfect and safe for the family. Diego, the saber-toothed tiger, thinks he is losing his touch, and decides to leave the herd and his friends. Sid, jealous of Manny and Ellie, “adopts” three eggs that he found in an icy underground cavern. He did not return the eggs as his friends wanted him to, and the eggs ended up hatching into 3 baby T-Rexes!
The rightful mother of the 3 baby T-Rex comes and carries Sid and her babies underground, with Diego in pursuit. Manny, Ellie, Crash, and Eddie follow and discover a huge underground forest teeming with dinosaurs! They meet a crazy swash-buckling weasel Buck who saves them and help them in the journey to find Sid.
Through the journey, Buck helps fight Rudy – a huge dinosaur which caused Buck to lose an eye. Near the end, Ellie gives birth to baby Peach (awwwwwwww… so cute) and everyone returns back to their ‘rightful’ place where they belong.

- Peaches!

Kinetic Gal’s take on the movie
Pity really, for me that I did not get to catch the movie in 3-D! I enjoyed the movie and found it to be loads of fun and just a great relaxing movie for the family. This being the third of the series of Ice Age movie, I had been wondering if the producers could keep up with the nut gag and also, the character continuity… and I was worried for nothing!
The movie still felt very fresh, and they managed to keep it still very fun for everyone.
There were lessons in the movie too – about friendship, family and looking just for the rightful place that you belong. I particularly love the little bits of Diego and Manny, it just simply show how ‘guy-to-guy’ talk may really be!
These little bits of lessons may be lost on the young ones, but the slightly older children should be able to grasp these and enjoy the movie still.
Buck, the new character in the movie, was simply a great addition to the cast! Captain Buck really reminded me of Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, which I think the character was probably modeled after. The whole swash-buckling captain character was cute and I have a hunch some little guys would probably really love him.
Frequent movie-goers will also notice some scenes that look familiar.
Some scenes really do remind me of Star Wars, Pirates of Caribbean, and the Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Interesting!
Overall, the movie is a great one for family fun and bonding. If you didn’t manage to bring the kids down to the theatres, you could rent the DVD and have a Sunday afternoon movie time right at home with this movie! Pop some popcorn in the microwave and enjoy a good Sunday afternoon with your children! I’m sure they will enjoy not just the movie, but the time together too.
For Parties!
This is a good movie to show for birthday parties too, especially for the age of 4-10 year olds! More than once i have come across parents playing the movie for the children after the party program.
This is a great idea for the kids to settle down after all the party show and games and just have fun watching – parents can also heave a sigh of relief (afterall the kids ARE generally quieter during movie time!), and have some food (finally!
)

Ice Age 3: Party Supplies
There are also birthday parties which are themed to Ice Age. For some of these, children get to make their own ice crystal (think of those ‘crystal-like’ window pattern stuff) as party stuff to bring back. Very COOL (pun intended) ideas!
As with all parties, think creative and think FUN! Whatever the theme is!
Alright then, looks like it’s been a loooong post. Till the next entry!

I had many birthday parties over the weekend and this weekend, one particular birthday party was very interesting!
I had expected a very rowdy party since the party was for THREE 6-year old boys and held at the Grass Roots Club Childrens’ Playground. I had a pleasant surprise and it was a great great party! In fact, Kinetic Gal had a good time and met a very special character at the party.
He’s a VILLAIN.
BIG VILLAIN.
Guess who?

YES. Him. Darth Vader!

The guys obviously had a super time with Darth Vader (or trying to kill Darth Vader).
But Kinetic Gal was not bad either. Soon after Darth Vader left, the guys settled down and we had a heck of a time with the juggling magic show!
Throughout the show, the little guys kept asking ‘How did you do that??’ LOL! The children had a heck of the time at the party, and so did I!
Unfortunately, as Yoda would say: ‘End it, we must’. And so, the show came to an ‘end’, and the kids continued having more fun at the playground.
Happy birthday to the 3 Jedi Knights!

Had the usual ’bout’ of birthday parties over the weekend, which were fantastic! Regina, Hannah’s mum, and her family was so very warm and even invited me to stay behind for lunch. Her party was a beautiful ‘Disney Princess’ themed party.
Everyone was welcomed to her home which looked like a castle, and the children left with great wonderful swords and certificates of princess and knighthood!
I also had a party for which Kinetic Gal (moi!) got a BIG cookie star at the end too!

Cookie star that says: ‘Kinetic Girl’… Close enough! It’s Kinetic Gal!
I had a special themed Hannah Montana party where i had special stuff for the party.
Check it out!

Postcards as prizes for the special party!

A Hannah Montana twist on the old classic ‘Pin the Donkey’s Tail’!

Presenting the Hannah Montana Poster to the birthday gal!
Here’s the poster that she got:

They loved and enjoyed the show and i loved performing for them too!
Kinetic Gal subsequently rushed to the other show where i was again warmly welcomed by Bette and her daughter Nerissa!
Bette later messaged me personally to thank me for the party!
Here’s a later email that she sent to me after:
Thank you for hosting Nerissa’s 7th Birthday Party last Sunday. You were certainly a life saver. Prior to your arrival, I was trying hard at organizing some games for the children to get them excited and engaged but the moment you arrived, that’s when the REAL PARTY starts. The children were in awe, captivated and you stole not only their hearts and minds but also their parents’. You were definitely the lifeline and livewire in the party And you make the birthday girl proud. The comments that I received from my guests were that you were entertaining to both their children and themselves. I cannot thank you enough.
Thank you for the wonderful words Bette!
Here’s wishing all the darling sweet birthday gals a wonderful birthday the past wkend!
Till next wk!

Kinetic Gal was missing??? NOT! July 3, 2009

Kinetic Gal has been ‘missing’ in blogging action for quite a while! However, it wasn’t because I have been slacking away, nor was it because there were not much things to write up. Quite the opposite! Parties were overwhelming and I was nearly drowned with not just parties, but also with working on the other big project that had happened on the 27th of June!
There you have it, J C and Ning has put Singapore on magic world map once again!
###

In any case, I have a full party schedule this wkend with one super one that’s Hannah Montana themed! I hear that the gals are super excited to meet me, and so am I! Looking forward to the parties!

Signing off!
Kinetic Gal
