If your kids are familiar with the first movie (or the book), i’m sure they will be delighted to know that Nanny McPhee And The Big Bang is coming to the Singapore movie theatres in June this year!

Plot line (from imdb) : Nanny McPhee arrives to help a harried young mother who is trying to run the family farm while her husband is away at war. As she takes care of the children, she uses her magic to teach the woman’s children and their two spoiled cousins five new lessons.
Directed by Susanna White (children will know her as Professor Trelawney in Harry Potter series), this is a show rated PG (as of now) and targeted at the families. Seeing as to this is going to be a June release, it is perfectly timed for the movie outing in the June holidays. Familiar cast from this show will include quite some professors from the Harry Potter casts too!
Check out the trailer:
I’m so definitely going to try to catch this show when it come out! *grin*

Naughty or nice? We need Nanny McPhee!

Alice in the Wonderland is a classic classic of children’s tales… I don’t think there’s anyone i know who has not heard of, or has not read Alice in the Wonderland at some point of time before.
Tim Burton’s the director of the movie with a star studded cast of Ann Hathaway and Johnny Depp starring as The White Queen and Mad Hatter respectively.

The show looks like a great show for the older children – though i’m not sure the younger children will understand or like the show. That is of course, from my own understanding of the show. However, this is afterall a Tim Burton directed movie, which i’m sure will be great. With it’s awesome cast, i’m sure adults will be spellbounded alike.
I truly look forward to catching this in the cinema if i can find the time! I think it will be great for the family with older children too!
Movie Review: Aliens in the Attic October 17, 2009

Here’s an overdue review on the movie: Aliens in the Attic!

Firstly, i’d say that this movie is more suitable for the older children and for the teens rather than the younger ones. The show itself is about a group of teens (cousins actually) are brought together to what was thought to be a boring place for a vacation. A little ‘meteor shower’ changed the ‘BORING’ into a big ADVENTURE. Tom who’s a genius at academics have let his grades slip but, now, he has got to pull himself together to fight the aliens… in the attic!
The aliens are determined to conquer the earth, but one of them, Spark is a kind alien who has no desire of fight… only to get back to his family. With Spark’s help, the kids fight off the aliens in all the most funny manner!
The movie is great for the 7 and above boys who will definitely love the comic action in the shower. Street fighter duel style of Ricky (a young guy) with the old grandmother would definitely be one of the most remembered scene in the movie. Boys (and girls who like street fighter maybe) might even be able to recognise specific move sequence in the duel!
Younger girls and tots might not be able to understand the movie as much, though the friendly alien Sparky would undoubtedly bring an awwwwwww factor for the girls.

While the movie has finished screening in theatres, i’m sure the DVD would be out soon. This is a great movie to catch for families with kids above 7 and especially boys! A great laugh for everyone!

3D movies seem to be all the rage these days! G-Force which was just released last week in Singapore theatres can also be watched in 3D.
In any case, G-FORCE is out in the theatres! It’s the September holidays for the p-schoolers all the way up to tertiary level, so movies are most probably going to be something that you’re looking at.
Brief Synopsis:
G-Force is a comedy adventure about the latest evolution of a covert government program to train animals to work in espionage. Armed with the latest high-tech spy equipment, these highly trained guinea pigs discover that the fate of the world is in their paws. Tapped for the G-Force are guinea pigs Darwin, the squad leader determined to succeed at all costs; Blaster, an outrageous weapons expert with tons of attitude and a love for all things extreme; and Juarez, a sexy martial arts pro; plus the literal fly-on-the-wall reconnaissance expert, Mooch, and a star-nosed mole, Speckles, the computer and information specialist.
Trailer:
Unfortunately G-Force seems to have garnered mostly negative movie reviews from everywhere across the globe. Not that the movie is not suitable for a family outing – most likely than not, it should be a fun movie outing, for the younger children, but only for them. Aside from the marveling of the improvements in technology that has allowed talking hamsters to look perfectly real (and interact with humans at the same time), the reviews have not revealed any much other satisfactory aspects of the movie.
That is really too bad, for i had caught the trailers and was hoping that the director would be focusing the movie beyond just the simple cute talking hamsters of which had seemed to be the main point of the movie. Coming after Pixar’s UP which had managed to still have a great storyline and engage adult and children alike, this movie, from the general reviews garnered, seems to be lacking of that aspect.
In summary, this movie seems to be a mix in talking animals (cute ones) with some spy action suitable for the young, and sufficient humour enough to make the children laugh. If you’d like to bring your young children out to the movies, you might want to consider this movie, it will definitely keep the children entertained… but parents would more than likely to be waiting for the time to pass in the cinema.

Well well. Despite all the busy-ness, Kinetic Gal actually managed to catch the movie. First and foremost, I’ve not catch it in 3D, but reviews from friends about the 3D experience has been nothing short of fantastic, with the exception of the dorky glasses. Kinetic Gal tends to steer clear of 3D goggles because of my high childhood tendency of getting motion sickness VERY easily not just in cars, but watching video games as well.

And my review and verdict in short?
The movie was fantastic.
I rather liked the first part of the movie much more than the subsequent part, the part about the grumpy old man’s love story. And i admit i teared. I love Pixar’s animation for the simple fact that Pixar do have this ability of bringing across stories that can touch people across ages and kids to adults alike can actually watch the movie and bring different things and lessons home.
The movie was touching and funny. As a kids entertainer i can see how the movie can appeal to children and to the adults as well. I do not however, think the movie will make as much an impact on the children as some other movies, because of it’s inherent storyline (ie. no superheroes/ big action). However, it definitely makes for extremely great family afternoon movie.
My recommendation, catch it – on DVD if you’ve missed it in the theatres. It’s a movie worth catching and you can actually teach your children something from the movie.

And now… the Kinetic Gal’s first movie review of the month.

Kinetic Gal went movie-a-watching some time back (yes, it is pretty hard to find time! But i managed!) and caught ‘Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs‘ in the theatres.
Synopsis

To cut a long story VERY short, two big mammoth Ellie and Manny are expecting their first child, and Manny, the daddy wants to make life perfect and safe for the family. Diego, the saber-toothed tiger, thinks he is losing his touch, and decides to leave the herd and his friends. Sid, jealous of Manny and Ellie, “adopts” three eggs that he found in an icy underground cavern. He did not return the eggs as his friends wanted him to, and the eggs ended up hatching into 3 baby T-Rexes!
The rightful mother of the 3 baby T-Rex comes and carries Sid and her babies underground, with Diego in pursuit. Manny, Ellie, Crash, and Eddie follow and discover a huge underground forest teeming with dinosaurs! They meet a crazy swash-buckling weasel Buck who saves them and help them in the journey to find Sid.
Through the journey, Buck helps fight Rudy – a huge dinosaur which caused Buck to lose an eye. Near the end, Ellie gives birth to baby Peach (awwwwwwww… so cute) and everyone returns back to their ‘rightful’ place where they belong.

- Peaches!

Kinetic Gal’s take on the movie
Pity really, for me that I did not get to catch the movie in 3-D! I enjoyed the movie and found it to be loads of fun and just a great relaxing movie for the family. This being the third of the series of Ice Age movie, I had been wondering if the producers could keep up with the nut gag and also, the character continuity… and I was worried for nothing!
The movie still felt very fresh, and they managed to keep it still very fun for everyone.
There were lessons in the movie too – about friendship, family and looking just for the rightful place that you belong. I particularly love the little bits of Diego and Manny, it just simply show how ‘guy-to-guy’ talk may really be!
These little bits of lessons may be lost on the young ones, but the slightly older children should be able to grasp these and enjoy the movie still.
Buck, the new character in the movie, was simply a great addition to the cast! Captain Buck really reminded me of Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, which I think the character was probably modeled after. The whole swash-buckling captain character was cute and I have a hunch some little guys would probably really love him.
Frequent movie-goers will also notice some scenes that look familiar.
Some scenes really do remind me of Star Wars, Pirates of Caribbean, and the Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Interesting!
Overall, the movie is a great one for family fun and bonding. If you didn’t manage to bring the kids down to the theatres, you could rent the DVD and have a Sunday afternoon movie time right at home with this movie! Pop some popcorn in the microwave and enjoy a good Sunday afternoon with your children! I’m sure they will enjoy not just the movie, but the time together too.
For Parties!
This is a good movie to show for birthday parties too, especially for the age of 4-10 year olds! More than once i have come across parents playing the movie for the children after the party program.
This is a great idea for the kids to settle down after all the party show and games and just have fun watching – parents can also heave a sigh of relief (afterall the kids ARE generally quieter during movie time!), and have some food (finally!
)

Ice Age 3: Party Supplies
There are also birthday parties which are themed to Ice Age. For some of these, children get to make their own ice crystal (think of those ‘crystal-like’ window pattern stuff) as party stuff to bring back. Very COOL (pun intended) ideas!
As with all parties, think creative and think FUN! Whatever the theme is!
Alright then, looks like it’s been a loooong post. Till the next entry!
